Six of
the quarter finalists (l to r) Roy Rodgers, George Federico, Dyson
Parody, Francis Taylor, Alfred King and Dylan Duo
With
the Mediterranean Cup looming up, it was a tense night last Friday
at the Laguna Club, as 27 of the top darts players in Gibraltar
battled it out to claim Dennis Sheehan’s Millennium Trophy.
It
was good to see Roy Rodgers playing in a tournament again, and he
showed that he hasn’t lost any of the skill that once made
him Gibraltar’s top player. Roy took out Justin Broton, Glenn
Cameron and George Ramos, before narrowly losing out to Dyson Parody
in the semi-final. He certainly got the crowds going with some great
games, including one 12 dart leg which he finished on 121.
Meanwhile
in the other half of the draw, it was the usual results, with both
Dylan Duo and George Federico battling their ways through to the
semi-final. In a very tight match it was Dylan who narrowly won
through 4-3 to set up a repeat of last year’s final with Dyson.
Dyson
had been playing well all evening, having already hit two 180’s
and a 160 check out, but although he continued to play well in the
final, he was no match for Dylan, who has really found his form
of late. Final score 4-2 to Dylan, who earned enough points to join
George Federico at the top of the ranking table.
